Prepping DVX100 for VHS Output

I'm working on a TV show that mails their final product on VHS to their affiliates. Does anyone know how I can prep the DVX100's 24p mode to best suit for VHS output. When the program shot at 60i, it looked like crap on VHS. I've run one test shooting at the F5 setting. WE used several ARRI light to light the talent etc. It looks better than 60i, but I'm wondering if you might know of settings or techiniques to get the best picture possible on VHS. Thanks!

There are several settings that would affect it.

One, would be to used 24 standard, not advanced unless your project has composites, effects. Motion will be a little smoother.

Two, set vertical detail freq to "thick" not "thin".

Three, experiment with detail level depending on what you are shooting.

Always test for best results and insure your NLE applies appropriate setup and legal RGB colors for output.

geez i have never heard of such a thing - vhs?????
then they bump up???? that's crazy - not even svhs???
send them the dv master and let them bump it to whatever,

your going to have to re colour grade the whole thing in the nle and convert it from 24 to 29 with black at 7.5 and colours legal to ntsc and it will look not so good as before

really if your going to ntsc 7.5 black, this camera should be used in 60i mode or find a camera with a much higher s/n level that has no compression

dvd does not have to be ntsc broadcast legal, that is where the gamma comes in and can be seen on the higher res monitor using r,g,b cables not composite....

might be time to buy a dvd burner, 240 lines of vhs requires some mighty fine electronics to make it look decent and really even then it sucks....
