footage numbers not constant

Two of our cameras have the Century precision Follow focus ring on them- which called attention to another problem- Focus "number" does not stay where you left it on one of our cameras. Say you are in "99" power down, power up (don't touch focus ring) it should power up in "99." All of ours, save one does that. And because it is one with the aftemarket adapter on it it means we must recalibrate on each power up! so- 99- power down- power up- say 82, power down power up 60 sonething, power down power up, 90 something.......

Glad to have you with us, Nathan!

If you don't get a useful response on your questions by tomorrow morning, then I'll ask my contacts at Panasonic Broadcast to drop in here and provide some input. Hope this helps,

Nathan:

I'd be interested in hearing more about the Century Follow-focus ring.

Per the lost focus (and tape reset issues), that does sound like a backup battery issue.

Try replacing it and see if that's an issue.

Mine does that without the focus ring...It's a bad design from the factory...Both my DVX100's do it...

four of our five cameras do NOT have problems with footage "wandering" during power down. I have tried recharging the internal battery on the offending camera- no dice. Later this week I will get more in depth about Century Precision Focus ring for those who are interested.....

problem solved!

Never mind guys, I solved it myself! the "drifting" is due to the focus set to autofocus, which while disabled in 24p (which we shoot in) still screws with the focus on power up. switch to manual focus (even though auto focus is diabled in 24p) and focus number units don't change on power up! Whew! No recalibration of Century precision ring on power up!

Chris Hurd October 14th, 2003 09:09 AM

Well, that's a pretty handy tip to know!

Stephen van Vuuren October 14th, 2003 10:37 AM

Thanks for the info - makes perfect sense know that I think about it. I leave my camera in manual focus as it's all 24p, so I've never noticed that.

hey does anyone know of a good place to buy Century Follow-focus ring. The price was over 2g when I inquired about them through them. Is there a big benefit?

Stephen van Vuuren October 15th, 2003 10:02 PM

BH has it for $319 http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...=287635&is=REG
