Zoom-Focus Problem

Last weekend I was recording a short movie and I noticed something That I dont know if it is a problem.

We were recording a message in the screen of the cellular phone of the main character.

Instead of getting the phone close to ghe camera I just decided to use the zoom and then manually focus the scene.

I was shocked when I discovered that the camera DIDNT get to focus the phone... I thought It could even be a flaw in my camera...

In the end we simply put the camera and the phone close enough and just focus it...

Does anyone know what could happened? Could it be a flaw? In the end we solved the problem, but I was really worried...

Any ideas??

Best regards...

GREG

At full telephoto, the camera has a minimum object distance of about 3'. Any closer than that and it cannot focus. The more wide-angle you go, the closer it can hold focus. At maximum wide you can focus basically up to the surface of the lens.

Granted, I am very new to the DVX and am learning

I was shooting a bowl of fruit on my kitchen table (checking out colors, etc) and I got to within 10" of the bowl...

The cam went into MACRO mode and one of the green apples went into plain focus (clear as could be; sharp).

Although I was about 10" away, I had the little apple filling the entire frame in complete clarity.

I would think you would be able to get the shot you wanted (cell phone screen)

Anyway, MACRO seems to be the key.
