DVC80, My final answer is...
 

Everyone seems to brag when they make up their mind. So I too have joined the ranks of DVC80 owners. It is en-route from B&H

Top 10 Reasons:

10. This forum
9. A kilobuck less than the DVX100
8. I don't need no stinking 24P flicker to make me feel or look like a "real" film maker. <Ooooo nasty remark!>
7. Good back up camera when I do want to feel all nostalgic about ancient film modulation and buy a DVX100 to get 24P <OK, so I don't really hate it...> :-)
6. It LOOKS like a pro camera.
5. Lieca branded W.A. lens.
4. Great looking video I have seen from other DVC80's
3. Good reported macro abilities from lens.
2. No added consumer-grade do-all frills and "features"

and finally

1. I just wanted this camera!

Of course it's a great camera going for a reasonable dollar. Besides, like you say, it's lens is stamped with Leica. Good enough for me. :)

Congratulations on your decision and your new camera (from one of our sponsors)! I have the 100 but suspect you'll get a great deal of enjoyment and satisfaction from the 80 based on what I've read about it. It seems like a fine camera.

Dunno man.. after Cinegamma+24P I hardly ever go back to 60i mode. Ever watch MTV recently? lots of shows are shot with DVX in 24P and it's very reminisce of 16mm. AWSOME!!

I never watch MTV. I think you have to steal the signals to get it here. :(

Congrats on your DVC80- I just bought one too and am very pleased with it. For accessories get a nice bag, tripod, UV filter and spare battery. For good additional accessories I'd recommend a 1.7x or 2X tele-extender lens (if you need more range) and a circular polarizer....a remote zoom is awesome too if you can swing it.

(Look into the Mack warranty as several people have experienced head problems- and it's great peace of mind)

Dan, glad to hear that you decided on the DVC80. I too have just decided that this is the cam for me, and am just shopping for the best deal deal.

The tough thing about deciding on the right camera is figuring out whether you are over buying. Spending money on features you're unlikely to need or use. If you're an aspiring film making, I can see the 24P route. But for me, like you, I think the 80 does the trick!

Congrats on your new camera. I kind of hate to say this but... I wish my DVX 100 was all black!

You'll enjoy it very much. I already had the DVX100 and I bought the DVC80 as a 2nd. camera when it came out.

Ah yes, Scott... My number 9 is a big issue. I would love to play with 30P and even 24P but I have to see if I can make some money with 60i before I drop another $1K. I have other parts to purchase...

I am also having a little fun before this forum becomes "sacred ground" for 24P and DVX100 only owners. I do believe there is the DVC80 mentioned in the title.... <g>

Oh, and Peter... Home Depot has this great stuff that comes in a rattle can that can fullfill your wishes...

Well, It's here!

Getting one of the batteries (yes, I bought two) all charged as well as myself... It looks great (better than the pictures) and even lighter than expected. Good!

Wondering what I'll be doing this weekend... Hmmm... Go and shoot someone or something I suppose :>)


For now I'm going to go hide and read for awhile. I guess some of us DO read the manual. I'm sure it is the same as the electronic version I downloaded.
