Tape quality and interlaced combing

heres an interesting one...

i recently stopped using the standard DVM60 tapes and moved to the DVM63MQ "pro tapes" and shot a wedding with these new tapes...

i never had an issue with the old tapes however i thought why the hell not upgrade considering its only 50c a tape difference...

aaaaaaanyways to the point...

I capture ALOT of stills from tape to use as promo and cover material however i have noticed that the combing of the interlace is far more significant (or obvious) on teh MQ than the Stocky DVM's...

now both tapes are prewound and all my tapes are ONLY used once ever...

any ideas on this?? One would think that the "higher quality" tape would have the interlaced field TIGHTER than the standard one...

DVX is a pal unit runnign 50i at 1/250

if i can upload afew comparisons i would...

It's impossible, all the tape holds is ones and zeros. Try using a head cleaner and trying your tests again.

I dont doubt that Jeff, however it is strange, coz i did clean the heads prior to changing tape as well as cleaning the head the night before the shoot...

the difference is very noticable
