Tel lens for DVC 80

I am considering purchasing the DVC 80 but the limited lens range does not suite the topics that I shoot (wildlife etc). Is there a decent 2x telephoto lens attachment that dosen't cost $800.00 like the Century. Please don't suggest the GL2 with its 20x lens. I currently use the GL1 camera and although the glass is great I don't like the plastic construction. The plastic on both look similar to me. What turned me sour was my GL1 plastic bottom plate/tripod attachment broke off last week and I am little upset with the GL's lightwieght construction.

Thanks,

Mark

The Sony HG (HighGrade) 1.7X lens works great- but it's 58mm threads so you'll need to get a cheap $8 step down ring which will allow the DVC's 72mm threads to accept 58mm threaded accessories.it's called a 72-58 step down ring...price for the Sony lens is about $270 and it's worth every penny.......crystal clear and no color fringing as well as no appreciable light absorption....it's only a 70% increase in focal length- but it's great!

Thanks Steve. For some reason it didn't occur to me to use a step-down ring. Brain freeze I guess. Also, I saw some of your posts on using a portable hard drive attached to the camera. Have you looked at the portable ADS dv drive. What I am thinking is configuring some light weight type of mounting device to the tripod socket extended to the rear of the cam with the drive attached with velcro. The specs and price of the drive look good. It is very small and has its own power supply. The only downside I've seen so far is no link to the record button on the cam. Also, awsome wildlife pics on your website.

Two questions about the Sony HG lens:
1 - Does full zoom-through work with this lens?
2 - If you slap a 58mm lens on a DVX100, aren't you going to have severe vignetting?

Full telephoto zoom will be perfect- it's halfway back down to wide angle where you'll notice the vignetting....

...about 1/2 way from WA, vignetting will occur.....but if u have a tele lens on, you'll probably be using it from 1/2 from WA to zoomed out anyway- so to me it's inconsequential- opinions will vary.
