100a 24pA (Interlaced Look)

Does anyone notice that in 24pA mode, interlaced artifacts seem to be more evidant than in 24p Standard. If you shoot something with thin angled lines, 24p has virtually no interlaced "Stairsteps", but switching to 24pA, they pop out. Is this normal, and will a transfer to 24 fps output (Film) get rid of this.

Try setting up the same test footage, but switch between vertical detail "THIN" and "THICK". I bet you'll find that with "THICK" selected, the edges are smoother.

If so, it's not a bug, it's an artifact of trying to display a higher-than-NTSC-resolution image on an NTSC display device.

Thanks for the quick reply, i will try that. This camera is new, so still learning the inner workings.

Beautiful images though, very happy with my purchase.

Could this also be caused by viewing 24PA footage directly? You have AABBBCCCDD instead of AABBBCCDDD which should look less smooth.

After capturing into the editor of choice (FCP or Vegas) as 23.97 progessive and then rendering/exporting a 3:2 pulldown, does the problem still exist?

Thats a good question. This friday i will be shooting in all different modes, then exporting to dvd. Hopefully, more questions will be answereed than raised. Thanks for the ideas, i will give it a try.
