DUSTY conditions with the 100a

hey peeps,

I've been filming with my 100a on a construction site thats very DUSTY! After every shoot I will always be spending about 30 minutes cleaning the camera from head to toe. I’m alittle worried about the on board mic and camera heads from the dusty coniditions

Can the mic get affected from the dust particles? I usually blow some compressed air around it. will that do? is there any else that I can do to clean the mic? Should it be ok?

The heads on the camera are fairly new. I do blow compressed air around the mechanical parts and run the tape cleaner for 10 seconds.
Is this ok what I’m doing?

Next time, wrap "Saran Wrap" around your cam. Regarding the mic, take the sock off and soak it in warm water, squeeze it a couple times, soak it again, and then let it dry.

10 seconds? Were the heads dirty?

I do not recommend using compressed air, or any blower, inside the camera. It can do more harm than good by driving dust deeper into the electronics and transport cavity.

I would do my best to cover the camera, perhaps with a Porta Brace cover or even a plastic bag. Do not open the tape door until you are away from the dust. Do not run a cleaning tape until you have an actual problem.

Get one of those squeeze-bulbs with a brush at the end for cleaning lenses. You can buy them at London Drugs.
