Avid and FCP locks up when DVX100 is connected

I have used this Panasonic DVX100 camera many times with this Avid Xpress DV
3.5 running on OSX 10.2.6 . and Final Cut Pro 3. Digitizing in and lay offs with out any problems. Then one day the avid locks up and won't even play the sequence or any clip. after much trouble shooting I realized that when the camera is plugged in through firewire the avid locks up. The little mac pinwheel icon will just spin and the avid is locked up until the second I pull the firewire connection, then everything is fine. I plug in a different camera (JVC GR-DVM5) and it works fine. the same thing happens with final cut pro everything locks up when the camera is plugged in so I guess it must be the camera. anyone ever heard of this?

thanks a lot!

FCP 3 and Avid 3.5 don't do 24 p. FCP4 and Avid XpressPro do. That might have something to do with it.

its a 30fps project and the footage is all 30fps. i should of mentioned that previously. it really just happened in the middle of a project, seemingly out of nowhere.

Trash your Prefs file and restart program

Do a search on your hard drive for the Prefs file for Avid Express DV, place it in the trash and restart the program.

Thanks for responding. I trashed the prefs files, the MCstate, all the deck prefs, made a new project, and new user, ran disk warrior on my HD, none of these have cleared up the problem. I cant figure it out.
