Image quality between DVX100 & DVX100A?
 

Just wondering if anyone has determined if there is any noticeable difference in video and audio quality between the DVX100 and DVX100A? Thanks.

Yes there is a big difference. I only have the dvx100a but you have exactly the same plain cine gamma on the 100a as you have on the 100. As well as a few more gamma settings. I find in cine V you get a much "punchier" picture. The plain cine setting gives a rather mooted picture. When I was filming on a beach with bright sand I switched between plain cine and cineV and the image was totally different. It looked much brighter and true in cine V.
Cine D is again different from plain cine. Its suppose to have more dynamic range and show shadow details better. I find it gives you a much more pastel picture. Some friends really like this look on indoor shots of people.
There is a black press gamma setting that crushes the blacks and seems to give slightly clearer picture without being excessively contrasty.
Also there is a knee on all the gamma's on the 100a so you wont get blowouts on your highlights.
In lowlight you can slow down the shutter to 1/25th AND use gain as well so making progressive actually useable in lowlight.

However, you can match the picture fairly exactly. If you use identical settings, you can achieve extremely similar (if not identical) results. The point is, the DVX100A is capable of more looks, but if you have to match a 100A to a 100 in a multi-camera shoot, you can.
