using 77mm filters with step-up ring? problems?

Hi!

I plan to use 77mm filters with my DVX100A, with 72-77mm step-up ring. Is there any down-size to this? Optical problems? I wouldn't think so, but I don't know for sure.

I'm doing so because already have some 77mm filters around and, plus, I can screw them on the front thread of my telephoto adapter.

Also, I plan to buy the century .6 wide angle adapter. Does anybody know, can I use filters on this lens' front thread, too? Again, 77mm could be an advantage.

Thanks a lot!

take care everybody!

OK

Generally, no, there's no problem using larger filters with a step-up adapter. Of course there could be some obvious physical issues, such as fitting other accessories to the front of the lens.

I can't speak for the Century lens.

The Century .6x doesn't have usable front lens threads. The threads are there as part of the process for making the lens and fastening the glass in, but they're not designed for allowing you to screw something else in (according to the Century rep at NAB).

how about the rear thread?

Thanks, Ken and Barry, that is helpful information.

How about putting just one filter to the REAR THREAD of the Century .6 wide angle adapter? I guess it would make a (bad) difference however, the distance between the wide angle lens and the stock lens muct be critical I suppose.

If I'm right, then the ONLY option of using filters with the .6 adapter would be a matte-box, pretty expensive... Bad news.

No rear threads on the .6, it mounts by bayonet, not by threads.
