$2,000

i have managed to save up about $2,000 and want to upgrade from my jvc gr-dvl. The only options i really see are the
dvc-80 and the pdx10 i really want a camera i can customize are there any other options out there? and what camera would you buy in the say 2,000-2,500 price range?

If you're looking to be able to customize a camera... the DVC80 is probably your baby. Get it before they're gone.

I got my DVC80 last week, I love it. Id pick it over the PDX10.

There's also the dvc30 - if you want customization, this cam go grow from a go-everywhere 2 pound baby ("No, we're not professionals, I'm just taking home movies... really") to a piece of tricked out semi-pro gear complete with 16x zoom, infra-red b&w mode, 16:9 anamorphic mode, and XLR microphone inputs. And it's at your price point.
