Video Noise.. Need help a.s.a.p
 

Hi all,

I've just rented a DVX100, we do not have the manual and we had to shoot rite away once we got it.

To my horror, whenever we tune down the aperture, or when there's not enough light, video noise starts occuring on the whole video.

Its as if auto gain is set on. But I've set it off in the menu system.

I've encountered this prob in XL1s, coz we accidentally turn on the auto gain last time. So I suspect the auto gain is on.
Is it hidden somewhere?
I've selected AGC as off in the menu. Anything that I am missing?

Need help a.s.a.p as we are shooting again in a few hours.

make sure that you do not have the gain switch on as well. It is located next to the WB button under the lens assembly.

I have set it to L (low).

The problem is I do not seem to see any difference even when I set it to H (high)..

Thats really weird.

What settings do you have your camera set on? In cine v you will get alot of grain in the blacks/dark greens and dark blue EVEN when the light level are good. Use a different setting. This is a problem that is inherent with this camera that other users have noticed too.
Also white balance all the time as this camera's auto white balance is apalling.

I dont think that we've set the camera at cinema mode.

We are shooting on normal 60i, all settings, gamma etc are on normal settings.

What could be causing the video noise?
Any other users who has any idea?

could you post a screen grab. That might help to figure out whats going on. Better yet, if you could post a short clip that would be even better.

You need to go to the menu setup for the gain controls. The values for the switch setting are set in this menu setup to anything you want so could be very high even for the L setting. If you have full info in the LCD monitor it will display th gain values as you switch. I suggest you go to the gain setup menu and set L to 0 . Use the little toggle to get the menu and move around to the gain setup menu. The manual for the DVX is on the Panasonic site also.

I've checked previously , and set the gain as 0.

It only has the option to modify the mid and high gain. The low gain is always at zero gain if i am not mistaken.

Could the camera be faulty?

Yes I have just checked the manual and low is always 0 on the DVX100 I was getting confused with the Ag DVC200 since I rent both at different times. Another thing to check is the detailing to see if it is set too high.

Can you point me to where it is?

But the noise looks like some kind of gain.

I hope it can be solved by altering the detail option.

The detail settings are part of the scene file menu.

If you are in auto an A appears in the viewfinder.

Setting the detail level to -7 helps.

Try using normal matrix instead of cine-matrix, and normal or high gamma instead of cinegamma, and see if those improve your noise situation...
