below is an email I just send to panasonic canada, have a read:

I was reading the brochure of DVX 100A and DVC30 , and find something quite interesting, wondering if u could tell me why, in the brochure of 100A, Page 4, it says 100A has 4 different cine-like tones, and for DVC30, page 4 as well, it says, it has Movie simulation, and use the same GAMA processor that 100A uses, ok, here comes the question, look at the graph that been used to indicate the different lines of output, u may have seen the problem now, same cine-like curve was different in two graphs(green in 30's graph, blue in the other one), and I'm positive that they used the same standards, because the "normal" curve is exactly the same, and quite coincidentally, the blue line in 100A is the actual same curve in 30's graphy, however, it was marked as cine-like D, which I understand is differ from cine-like.

My question in the the email I pasted in my post, read it again please.

I agree with Yang there is no real question in there. You state
some things are "wrong" in your view, but you don't say what
exactly is wrong or why you think this is wrong or what the
exact problem is.

I'm "thinking" you have problem that the two curves are not
the same or their name is different. Well a cine mode on one
camera does not need to have the same curve on the other
camera even if it is from the same manufacturer. Nor do they
have to name it the same. It is a different product and therefore
it might have different names and/or operating modes. Even
if it has the same chip.

Anyway, when sending an e-mail to company or here on a board
it is good to describe in clear words what your question is which
you don't do. So I'm not sure Panasonic "understands" your
"question" either. And proper language will probably help as
well (like "you" instead of "u") when talking to a company.

The question is why do they use different curves to indicate same cine-like gama in the same standard graph?

hope this time some one can understand me. I'm not a big fan of panasonic, nor sony , nor canon or JVC,etc. if u are a big fan of Panasonic, and feel offended by this post , then I apologise ! and maybe next time I'll watch my language while I'm talking to any 'big company'.

no one's offended but it just sounded like you had waay too much caffeine when typing the original post. I read it through twice and still didn't understand what you had said and then was pissed when I realized I had wasted my time doing so.

I have no idea why this is (Own the DVX not the DVC30) unfortunately. I looked at it and wonder if its because the 30 is using a Frame mode and the 100A is using Progressive? Anyone?

I just got the reply form Panasonic , and Thanks for John and Chris and also thanks for Yang and Rob's participation, here's the reply from Panasonic, I think we'll all understand why now,


The curves are different. The DVX100 has the 4 different curves for
Cinemalike gamma
The DVC30 has only one which is similar to the DVC100 Cine-Like D even though
in the dvc30 it is called cine-like (without the D)

For best quality of video to look like film in the DV format please choose
the DVX100 camera with cinelike curve
