I've been playing around with DOF trying to make it more shallow. I've found the best way to do so was to have the lens at complete telephoto. My question is...if I was to put on a wide angle converter, would that then widen the DOF once again? Reason being, I dont want to be a mile and a half away from my subject for sake of composition, and I want to have the option to do a rack focus without having to shell out $10K on the mini35.

Search DOF and you'll find many threads. This article is on our site as well. If after reading the article you have a question or two please post them in an existing thread.

I have read that article and though it does mentioin about having the lens zoomed in all the way, it said nothing about the use of a wide angle adaptor.

Yes the wide-angle adapter will cause you to revert back to a deeper DOF.

Magnification effects DOF. The smaller you make your subject, whether by zooming out or moving away from your subject, the greater the DOF. The larger you make your subject, the shallower the DOF.

Aperture effects DOF whether you magnification is large or small. The larger the lens opening (small numerical f/number) the shallower the DOF. Smaller lens opening (large numerical f/number) increase DOF.

Circle of Confusion (COC) effects DOF, enough said.

Viewing distance from print, TV or screen effect DOF.
