What's it gonna cost?

Any concrete ideas on what the "street" price will be?

Chris Hurd September 21st, 2002 08:06 PM

The MSRP is right around $3800. I expect that at first, street price will be close to full retail, then maybe slack off a bit. High demand might keep the price up for awhile. I'm guessing the street price will be closer to $3500 or so? Charles McConathy, owner of ProMax Systems in Orange County, CA and a Panasonic dealer, might have better input on this.

It looks like Promax is currently listing it at $3599:

It will really depend on the quanity Panasonic can ship. If supplies are tight, don't expect much, if any discounting. Why give it away if your the only dealer that has one? On the other hand, if everbody has three on the shelf and two more on the way, deals will be had. If any of the competition sneaks in under the radar with a similar product, expect some price reductions also. I've seen prices as low as $3300. These initial low prices are usually just an attempt to get people to preorder. Nobody wants to appear too high in the beginning. Once they start shipping they usually dissapear pretty quickly.

Didn't someone say at some point that one of the sponsors was taking preoders without an obligation to buy? I can't find that posting. Thanks if anyone knows about this.

promax was the sponsor who was doing it.
