Clips from the DVX100

I suppose most have already seen these, but if not, they can be found here:

30P progressive scanning motion test (19 MB):
http://66.78.26.17/~reli/24P/30P.avi
This clip is just the train going around the track, but recorded at 30P instead of 24P. You can also see some progressive-scan twitter on the train tracks.

60i->24P (31 MB):
http://66.78.26.17/~reli/24P/60i24P.avi
This is one of the few clips that I recorded at 60i, and it shows the train and some other motion. Then it cuts to 24P of the same subject material, so you can see the difference in motion rendering and vertical resolution.

Full-frame head shot/focus shift (22 MB):
http://66.78.26.17/~reli/24P/24PFocus.avi
This is not a clip I intended to post, but since it's one of the few headshots I captured, and since it does shift focus between faces, those of you interested in DOF might find it instructive. This was shot at maximum telephoto, wide-open aperture. The woman in focus at the beginning of the clip was maybe 5 feet closer than the man it shifts focus to. The background behind him was maybe a hundred feet away.

perhaps i spoke too soon....the links are broken...anyone else have any clips
or know where top find them???

Clayton Farr September 23rd, 2002 05:23 PM

Hi Adam,

I have pulled together a number of clips, corresponding to the frame grabs I had uploaded previously (http://homepage.mac.com/crf1973/dvx100), that Chris will be posting here at DVinfo.net within the next couple of days. (As they say, the CD is in the mail...)

Although limited to interior shots at a demo booth, they will included samples from 24p standard, 24p advanced, 30p, and 60i.

Hope that helps,
Clayton

Well, this is the latest locaton for clips.

http://66.78.26.17/~reli/24P/index.html

It is down right now, but it might come up -- Don't know.

If its not up shortly, I'll open a yahoo acct and put them in a briefcase. These are not my clips, but as they were posted in a forum, I suppose there shouldn't be be a problem making them available to people on this forum.

New clips should be out as earily as Friday...

Just got word that Panasonic's Marketing VP will be releasing some new clips. I'll post a link here when they are up.

Here's his post....

"24P Adv Clip

We wouldn't normally consider posting a cip on-line until the camera has been formally shipping, due to the issues of not properly adjusted hardware or software etc on a pre-production units.

But as so many have asked for it, we are tracking down the location of the footage of the Sand Pipers on the beach in Santa Barbara, which I believe is currently being upconverted to 720P D-5 HD for a New York rental facility to demonstrate to some clients this week.

When I get the actuall DV tape, or a clone of that tape, we will try and post it asap. Probably late on Friday.

One or two cameras are now out on initial projects so if footage becomes available from any of those next week, we will try and post some clips from one of those too.

Stuart English

Hi,

Just wondering,,, is it just me or do I see a black vertical band on the left side of the frame? Does the DVX100 not completely fill the frame like some older cams?

Clayton Farr September 28th, 2002 02:12 PM

Yep, it's there. (At least on the pre-release camera that I saw and recorded footage from.) But, I don't think it will be much of an issue since it is relatively small (especially compared to the GL1) and easily within the underscan of the image. (I presume you would just crop it out if showing it in a full frame context - web, etc)

Hope that helps,
Clayton

A VHS Tape of clips

Can anyone get me a VHS or DVD copy of these clips? I really want to see what they'll look like on a television so I can see what people would be actually seeing if on their televisions if I shot something with this camera. The look is very important to me. I'm shooting an action movie and I don't want the video look anywhere near it. It's already a grade B movie, the straight video look would make it just bad. If it were a drama I wouldn't mind so much.
