dvc30 or gl2?

hi guys

im new to this forum (clearly) and relatively new to the realm of mini dv's, but ive come to the conclusion that these two 1/4" 3ccd prosumer models are probably my best bet... i have a "reasonable" understanding of photography, and want to take a step above the high end "consumer" models in order to gain more manual controls.

so which is better? all reviews ive read seem to lean in favour of the dvc30 due to its superior low light performance.

Have used both. I now own DVC30.

ok, well this is a more general question - is there a huge difference between ntsc and pal versions of the dvc30 (i live in australia)? besides differing frame rates. i hear it will make no difference, and is a much of a muchness. i only ask because ordering from B&H seems the best and cheapest option, and they only sell the ntsc model.

Howdy Chris,

Just curious, if you live in Oz, why would you buy an NTSC model and have it shipped half-way around the world? You're going to want a PAL model that can be properly serviced by Pana Aus -- they might refuse to touch an NTSC version. If you need help locating a reputable dealer down there, let me know. But I'd like to know what side of the continent you're on though.

hi chris, thanks for your response. i live on the east coast, and the few stores ive checked out that stock the dvc30 sell for around 4000 australian. even with shipping, and local import and sales tax, i could get the ntsc camera from b&h for under 3k... maybe i just need to do a little more searching in the local market. i wont be buying for another few months anyway.

cheers
