Picture & Audio Glitch/Dropout?
I am using a DVX100B with MQ tape stock. Have seen the odd picture dropout occasionally, but never audio and video simultaneously. I have been doing some tests lately (maybe 5 hours worth) and all the footage has been clean so far.
Just wondering if anyone had seen anything like this and if it is just an anomaly or something I need to worry about. Picture of what I am trying to explain is here: http://img638.imageshack.us/img638/2976/avglitches.jpg Here's hoping someone still actually reads this sub-forum! Thanks |
most likely just dirty heads on the camera.

they try and patch and fill in digital glitches with previous data.
so a tape with dropouts would indeed exhibit the things your describing. also audio is recorded in a different location on the tape than the video, even though they are on the same helical scan thingee, the "streams" arent actually muxed or intertwined as a single stream like we might think. so a dropout on the audio could effect the audio only easily. Clean ya heads, Keep the dust out of the tape transport area, watch how long your paused on any one piece of tape, watch how you FFWD and RREW and pause through tape, and use best quaility tape. Stay out of Long Play modes. Try and make your "passes" over tape without Pauses, feed into the computer without parking on and scanning places on the tape. avoid viewing if you can, put it on, take it off, use a backup recording device. put a filter in your edit room for all that flying crud you cant see in the room, all that stuff. |
pictures :-)
http://www.dtvgroup.com/DigVideo/DVC/DVTRACKS.GIF i knew i saw that somewhere. that isnt really the angle, but the idea of how it is stored is shown. |
Thanks.
I had it cleaned today and shot some tests and everything looks clean now. I was worried for a bit because the last time I saw issues like that was on one of our HDCam SR decks that had one foot in the grave. Just a simple cleaning and I think she should be ok. |
