SDX900 -- some questions

Don't know if this is the right forum (or if there IS a right forum for this question/camera here, but...) I'm renting an SDX900 on Friday to shoot a fair at my kids' school. It's a lot of booths and games and some performances, interviews with the kids and teachers, mostly exterior. Just wanted to try this camera out after reading about it, thinking I may want to use it on a couple of infomercials we're doing this summer.

I'm thinking I'll shoot in 24p, this will finish on DVD, want to get some filmic effect.

My questions mainly concern how to get DVCPRO50 into my Premiere Pro 1.5 system. I only have firewire and s-video in, and there's nothing like either of those on the camera, as far as I can see. I could dub it from the camera to a betaSP deck I have here, and then go in via s-video from there, but would rather avoid extra steps/tape.

I don't have a decklink or kona card, which is probably the way it's done.

Any suggestions?

Also, any tricks or problems a novice like me should be aware of? It's going to be fairly contrasty, white booths on a grass area, with clouds/sun going on, according to forecasts. Thanks.

Rent or borrow an XL2, save yourself the headache.

You'll need a DVCPRO50 deck to get the footage off of the tapes. Alternatively, you could rent the firewire add-in board for the camera. Though it's unlikely that the rental house has one for rent as that would allow renters to avoid renting a deck and add all those hours onto the camera's heads. You could also rent a deck but that might be too big for your budget.

Thanks, guys. Going to rent a deck to capture the footage, but do you know whether I can edit DVCPro50 in preimere pro 1.5? Or in premiere 6.5? What's entailed there, if anyone knows?

From this link, the Adobe site indicates compatibility with PPro 2.0 but nothing about 1.5 and nothing about exactly what type of third party add-on is necessary.

Usually all you need is the codec and the NLE will handle whatever format. Unfortunately, I don't know where you could download the DVCPRO50 codec.

Sorry, can't be more help on the NLE front - I use Avid mainly.

BTW, I'm working with the SDX900 this weekend also. Great cam, excellent SD images.
