Capture of a short for film school

Hello all :) This is my first capture from my dvx that I'm making available to the net. It's from a short that my team and I are making for our film school class. Hope you'll enjoy!

Looking very nice there Kevin. Let us know when you debute
the short or a trailer. Thanks for sharing!

can't wait to see the movie. the Image looks very stylized and clean, very filmish also(well at least from that single cap). When are you putting the trailer/movie up?

Kevin Boucher May 21st, 2003 04:41 PM

actually, the whole short movie will be up if our writter says it's ok :) It's only a 7 page script so it should be around 7 minutes, but right now, we have 1 hour of footage already and we still have one day of shooting to do. We'll be doing post production this week-end. We have to show this movie to the other students and our teacher monday at noon :) We usualy make these kinds of movies in 1 week.

I can post a short clip. There might be one prob... it's in french because I study in Quebec :) But I'll write in the post what is going on in the clip and atleast you'll be able to see some footage in action.

Ok here's a short clip from the movie... it hasn't been touched much, because like I said, we're doing post and editing this week-end. Your about to enter a Locus' mind. In this clip, he is in prison with another man. This other man is infact himself as he realizes later on at the end of the clip. By the way, this is a very surrealistic movie so don't freak out if you don't understand what is going on without seeing the rest of it :)

Hope you enjoy.

Intriguing... Always get a kick out of abstract projects. Can't wait to see the whole thing...

My first short consumed just over 3 hours of raw footage, and the resulting short was around 20 minutes, so your ratios sound right on.

Kevin: I know... but still :)

I know, lol! I was saying that to my team and they we're like... hmmm well its kinda gory as it is ( they made reference to another scene hehe ) but yeah... it could have had a little on it, no doubt :)

So these shots had nothing done to them in post? Did you use any filters when shooting? How did you get that cold blueish-grey and semi-diffused look for the close up shots? I'll say these shots looks a lot better than alot of the other movies posted here. Good use of the camera

Oops, yes that is done in post. I just wanted to show the kind of look I thought would fit most the prison scenes... it's just a little blue with less saturation of the colors done in vegas 4. The same effect has been done to the whole clip which I rendered like that. However, what I meant was that the way that the scene is edited is a draft and that it might change by the time we do the whole editing.

Thank you! If you want to know how to get that lighting on a close up it's simple... dim all the lights. Find a cheap lamp sitting around. Plug it near your actors face and have a friend plug and unplug it during all the shots :) hehe

Here's the same capture but without any modification
