Fast Primes on GH1? How?

What are my options for fast primes on GH1? I was thinking about getting a Canon FD adapter - but at $175, it's more expensive than the lens I want, the Canon FD 50mm 1.4f, which I could get used for $100 or so.

You can pretty much adapt *any* lens to a GH1. Canon, Nikon, Contax/Yashica, Leica, PL, c-mount, M42, whatever.

First off, don't forget about the magnification of a SLR lens on a Four Thirds camera

Secondly, I agree its abit annoying having the adapter cost more but at least you can use it with any other lenses you purchase in the future.

There are FD adapters cheaper than $175 on eBay. I got mine from jifinance for much less than that. And a Nikon and Olympus OM adapter. This allows me to use a bunch of prime lenses that my friends and I own. Plus, I got a c-mount adapter that lets me use 16mm lenses. It's very empowering, getting to use all these old lenses. They each have their own visual quirks, and I love them all.

There is an f 1.7 lens that Panasonic is releasing although it most likely wont come out until next month at the earliest. I don’t think it’ll be that cheep since I’m assuming that it’ll have the same type of constant auto focusing as the bundled 14-140 lens.

I just picked up a 50mm f1.8 Canon FD lens and adapter - the Adapter for $75, and the lens for $40. I'm also bidding on a f1.4 Canon 50m.

That should do me well until they come out with an affordable 25mm fast prime for m4/3.

i have a very nice 4/3 f1.4 30mm (60mm equivalent) from Sigma with a micro 4/3" adaptor. Works a treat.

am getting the olympus 14mm f2.8 pancake lens next

Hmm. You know what might be good for this camera - if we could get an anamorphic lens that recorded 2.35:1 aspect ratio onto a 16:9 sensor, so that we can produce a 2.35:1 1920x1080p image stretched to 2538x1080...

Pipe dreaming, I know, but it's better than cropping to 1920x820

Hello Phil. Does autofocus work well with that Sigma lens? Is it very noisy while focusing? Thanks!

You could put the Panasonic DVX anamorphic adapter on the front of any 72mm lens threads... I doubt you'd love the results, but hey, it's one way to do what you're talking about.

I got my fd adapter from jinfinance as well. Works great.

*EDIT: Not sure if I'm allowed to post ebay links here, so I took it out.

How's the adapter in use??

Bert Na August 24th, 2009 12:30 PM

How do you control the exposure? Does the adaptor communicate the aperture setting to the GH-1? I'm glad to hear that the adaptor from RJ accessory works well, I plan to order one for F-mount lenses.
