Just a quick question - Are the GH1's video frame rates 30/60, or 29.97/59.94? The answer must be somewhere in the cyber space but I do not seem to be able to find it.

The GH1 uses video-appropriate 23.976, 29.97, and 59.94 frame rates.

Thanks Barry. This makes the sync'ing of dual audio much easier, which I will use.

Just ordered a GH1 from Panasonic directly, will ship today. Meanwhile thinking about ordering a GF1 as well, both as a back up video camera and as a pocket camera for every day use.

Perhaps u care to share why u went with the GH1 as your video acquisition tool?

How did the use of film camera primes help with the shallow dof & your lighting decisions?

Did u manage to record audio with the GH1-even for "behind the scenes" use and if so, your audio workflow?

Lastly, knowing what u now know about the GH1, what would have done differently?

Rob - replied to your email, but thought I might reply here for others who have asked the same questions:

I chose the GH1 because it's cheap, super portable and gets me shallow DOF and lowlight possibilities. I also shoot with an HVX200 and an SGPRO - which is much bigger, needs an external monitor and sucks in low light. So for this, the GH1 was a no brainer.

Regarding lighting - there was none. Available light, reflectors and for the car interior a tiny fluorescent light. The camera sensitivity and the ability to put a 1.4 lens on there are another reason for the choice. Couldn't do this with a regular video camera. Also with regards to the car rig - the GH1 is small, light and less likely to draw attention. (Technically you have to have a police escort to film with a car rig on public roads)

I did record audio with the on-camera mic which helped with the syncing in post. This was done in Edius which is only frame accurate with audio - so not great, but good enough. Some of the lip syncing was tightened up using time remapping.

Shooting again I would invest in really good quality ND's or more liker a Fader ND/SIngh Ray. Would save a ton of time. Also would take more batteries, as I ran out on day 1!!
