How big is a 4 minute file
 

I am writing a feature for a photographic magazine, can anyone tell me the file size of a 4 minute file captured on a GH1 ?

It depends on what the content of the shot is, because the bitrate can vary. The largest a 4-minute file will be would be about 680 megabytes. But it could be half that size.
