Still picture

GH1 when shooting still picture, do you set it to 4.3 or 16.9? I read it manual but I am confused as which ratio to use.

It really depends on your desired look. 4x3 will give you more pixels on the top and bottom while 16x9 will give you more pixels on the left and right sides. If you want to play it safe, you can keep it at 4x3 and shoot in 16x9 shots in which you want a wide angle look or if you ever wanted to mix the footage with HD video since the aspect ratio is the same.

Depends on what you want to use it for and what you think looks best. I use 3:2 most of the time because that's what all my other photos are. If I am shooting stills specifically to be used in a video (or as DVD menu's) then I will switch to 16:9. With stills though it doesn't really matter so much because you can crop it to the best size or shape to fit the picture (eg a landscape shot with a wide lens will look great when cropped down to a long 3:1 rectangle). It's not like video where you know your output is always going to either be 4:3 or 16:9 (or something wider for cinema projection)
