Anyone have the Comer 1800 LED?
 

I'm thinking of getting this light. I noticed at the bottom of the page they suggest an added hot shoe adapter for the GH1. Would that also be necessary with the GH2?

I use the Comer and two other lights sold by Taky at LA color.

The Comer is a great light, but it is heavy with a large battery, I would suggest using a 770 instead of the 970 to keep weight down. I use the adapter below so I can run a light and mic on the same camera. I also have removed the metal barn doors to lighten it up as well.

The Comer is too heavy for a DSLR, IMO and I put it on a light stand now. You can use it, don't get me wrong, with the bracket, and I have done so and it's fine. But it's h e a v y for the camera.

Fotodiox makes a dimmable led that is a perfect size and very bright, it is a marvelous light, but I cannot find it anywhere on the net, only my local store carries it. It is perfect for atop the GH1/GH2, very light and crazy bright for it's size.

What about the LitePanels micro, which seems to be really popular. I understand it's pretty light, but almost cheap looking/feeling construction wise due to all the plastic.

I've never used the Micropanels, but it is said that for their price that they are reportedly completely overpriced. You can by a brighter light fort 25% of the cost, but they are larger.

You should look at the new Lowell Blender, that is a really nice looking light that I would give a serious look. I already have 4 lights, don't need a new one, but it looks nice. Lowell is top quality, though, and worth a look. The specs say it put out 345 lux at 8 feet compared to Comers 28 lux .

I would look for something light but to get a nice look it needs to have a wide degree of spread. Some of these lights are too hot in the center and drop off too fast.

The $745 Lowel Blender even on sale at 28% discount ($538.95) also looks to be completely overpriced because unless they are implementing some magic new LED technology a palm sized (4"x3") battery operated fixture simply cannot throw enough light to justify that price. Assuming that the output figures are quoted correctly then the Comer in fact has the higher output at 1800 lux at 1m (3'3") versus 1280 lux at 4'.

I misread the specs, the Comer is more powerful.

The Lowell Blender has the ability to balance color temperture with a dial, and I would love that feature, particularly for getting ready segments in mixed light, which can be a bear for me. If I needed a light I would give it a go despite the lower power. My last Lowell light was amazing quality, and I still haven't had anything even close to it since.

The Comer is definitely more bang for the buck.
