GH2 and long night/star exposures

Can anybody advise me how I can shoot still nightime shots with the GH2 and the 14-140 lens in M mode? Whenever I try the manual exposure assist makes up for the low exposure, despite that I have set the shutter to say 10seconds,ISO 100/200, and apaerture to f7, the photo always comes out extremely overexposed. Please advise me what to do? thanks

Start by reducing your shutter speed, getting the right shot under such conditions is down to trial and error, simply try different settings until you have the shot that you are pleased with

Re: GH2 and long night/star exposures

Thanks guys I know how to shoot star trails and do they very well with my 600D but as I am trying to explain their is an issue with the GH2 which prevents long exposures even at 3secs! What am I doing wrong? I am in manual mode with a 3 or 10sec shutter, ISO 100 or 200 and aperture around f7.

Re: GH2 and long night/star exposures

Where are you getting a shutter speed of 100 on a GH2 ?? the lowest is 160. Try adjusting your aperture, The camera wont fire if you have it it set to high or low. As I said before, its trial and error taking long exposure shots.

The easy way...

intervalometer set to bulb.

The second easy way, a wireless or wired remote and count one one thousand, two one thousand.....

Re: GH2 and long night/star exposures

Jalan - just by chance, I shot my first time exposure of the sky with the GH1 the other night. I used "S" mode instead of "M". The camera let me adjust aperture separately from shutter speed by pressing in the front dial (rear dial on the GH2) and toggling between aperture and shutter speed. The results are below. Haven't done it with my GH2 yet, but I'll try it and get back to you.

Re: GH2 and long night/star exposures

Hi Jalan - I tried it in S mode with the GH2 and was able to make it work.
