Snowshoeing with the GH3

Got to the farm for the holidays and had a chance to test some settings on the GH3. Ultimate contrasty conditions, shoe and gun.

Dayam.... great looking dogs! Are they all yours?? Good stuff with the camera. Music OK but kept thinking their exuberance and their fun being had maybe could have used something else. Just nitpicking. Which lens were you shooting with, or was there more than one used in that clip? 1080 60P? 30P? 24P?

Hey Ron,

Yeah, they're my pack, short one. The eighth was recovering at home.
Everything was with the 20mm 1.7, handheld, 1080 60p.
I was actually doing a remix of the music in my studio and the slomo of me occasionally calling to the dogs just felt like it should stay with the other tracks.

Just got 18" of fresh snow at the farm today!

Did you edit that with FCP or Premiere? Or? I've been running some initial trial 1080 60P footage as well from a GH3 on the time line in Premiere CS5.5. The sequence is set up to eventually output to 1080i 29.97 on a bluray disc for smoothest motion. What was your final output for that clip?

Were your exposures stock results from the camera handling automatically? They look great! Or did you have to experiment and adjust them downward at all with all the brightness in the scenes?

I like the OLED screen on the back but I was expecting great things from it according to reports, as far as visibility in bright outdoor light. I'm actually kind of disappointed in it. Not much better in that regard than my little NEX 5N screen. And the screen on my Sony A77 actually smokes it in that regard. I pretty much have to use the EVF to see details in bright light.

It was FCPX Ron, 60p 50MB edited into a 24p 1080 timeline. I had a .09 ND filter on so I could have more iris.
I'm almost shooting it dead flat and I would normally just add an exposure curve to that in MB but in this case I CCed it quickly in FCPX.
If you downloaded the original (still compressed from the Pro Res master) it's got a lot more dynamic range and shadow detail than Vimeo.
