ENG rig for GH3

1 Attachment(s)
Slowly getting together my GH3 ENG style rig. Attached is the rig in "beta" testing, still a number of things to add, mod & change. Put this up on twitter (still new to twitter, but feel free to follow @zijital) & it got some hits. SmallHD reposted on their facebook page & that got a bunch of likes.

A bunch of people were interested so I put together a very simple lens test (IE: far from ideal lens test / comparison)

Let me know your thoughts!

Rig:
GH3 (got the last one in stock from Norman camera in Michigan)
Canon 16x8 ENG lens
SmallHD DP4 EVF
Tilta baseplate (love this thing, got a good deal from teamtilta.com e-mail me if you need an invite)
Lanparte v-mount battery pinch (from Ozirigpro who had an amazing deal)
2/3" B4 to m43 adapter
12pin ENG lens to D-tap adapter (to power servo)

Interesting rig, however I am most interested in how the lens is working with the camera. Can you go to full wide angle?

Check the video on YouTube (URL hyper link now fixed, it wasn't click-able before).

When in ETC (crop) mode you can use the lens with or without the 2x (aka "doubler").

When you're using the entire 4/3" sensor you have to have the 2x enabled, if not you'll have massive vignetting (you can see this at the start of the video.)

Looks very, very good. Right now I can't see it in HD but since it's an SD lens, I wondering are there any chromatic aberrations when you zoom in?

Re: ENG rig for GH3

Can you clarify what you mean by you can't see it in HD b/c of the SD lens? I've read reviews of some good "SD" lenses that perform great on HD cameras & some "HD" lenses that don't deserve the designation.

Not sure when I'll have the time, but I'll try to shoot some more footage & try to push the lens to a breaking point of image quality.

Now that I've seen it in HD ( I was watching it on a tablet before), I can see that there is very little chromatic aberration in the circumstance you were filming in and that's good. The Canon's detail is softer than the 14-42mm lens which is not unexpected, it being an SD lens, but that might be a good thing at times.

Looks great Zach. Where did you get the 12pin ENG lens to D-tap adapter ?
