gh2 unreliable Help

Ive been using a gh2 for a little while and I like it but here are a couple issue i cant figure out.

1. every so often camera stops recording on its own.

2. once in a while it records , but when i put the card im my mac and try to open the files nothing but error and i cant get to the footage.

Ive been using several 45mps sandisk c10 cards and thought thats was the problem so I got some extreme pro 95mps cards and the problems still occur.

I format and then shoot and as far as I know im not running any hacks.

I like the camera and have a bunch invested but what am I doing wrong.?

Thanks

Re: gh2 unreliable Help

The GH2 only does a "quick format" which replaces a few characters of each filename in the File Allocation Table so the camera can "reuse" the space that file occupied. The files are left there and as the card is reused "bits & pieces" of image and video files remain scattered over the card.

This "clutter" over time interferes with the card's ability to keep up with the camera.

So what some of us do is to put the card in the reader on our PC and do a "low level" format. This format option goes through the card and rewrites every sector with a "fresh format" getting rid of all the clutter. The card is then formatted in the camera so the camera does it it's own way. This has been working for me.

On a MAC there is some special way you have to do this or the card is unrecognized by the camera. So what you need to do is go to a MAC forum and find out how to safely do a "low level" format on your cards. I wish I knew more about that but I don't.

Hope this info helps you.

Oh one more thing. If you bought your cards on ebay that could be the main problem. SanDisk is the most counterfeited brand on the market and ebay is rife with counterfeit SanDisk media.

Even some amazon vendors seem to be "dancing with the devil" as I've seen reports of counterfeit SanDisk media purchased through amazon.

Re: gh2 unreliable Help

1. I bought my cards from amazon, i hope there real.

2. I made a discovery, that if i select show package contents I get to a stream file and can view the footage in movist, but i cant do anything with it.

Im confused.
