FZ1000 30 minute limit removed

Just saw this posted the other day on FB.
Someone found a work around to the 30 minute recording limit on the Panasonic cameras (G7, G8, and FZ1000). The article was mainly focused around the G7, but I tried this only already NTSC FZ1000 and it worked.

The only weird thing right now is that .mp4 4K has a longer record time than 1920x1080 and 720x1280.

This now makes the FZ1000 really workable for me now. The only thing I wish that I could fix now is using external monitor via HDMI while recording.

That doesn't have much advantage when you live in pal country?

Re: FZ1000 30 minute limit removed

I would also think that shooting indoors under 50Hz lighting would create flicker issues too if you are shooting at 60P instead of 50P .... The only way you can get HDMI out is to use something like an Atomos Ninja recorder ... that unit also has an HDMI passthru which could go to a monitor if you don't like the monitor on the Ninja ... Doing it that way you can shoot and record in PAL and have no time limit at all as the camera is constantly running in standby mode so you can record as long as you wish. Works great for tripod shots but I'm not sure I would want a Ninja 2 hanging below the camera for handheld shots.

Just for interest if you use this "mod" and shoot NTSC on a PAL camera what happens if you are shooting in say 1080 MP4 (not 4K) and the clip size exceeds 4GB? Does it create a split file, and if so is it seamless??

Chris the mod only gives you unlimited mp4 filming in 4k. All other mp4 options 2080p, 720p etc. are still limited to 30 minutes

However all options in AVCHD are available for unlimited shooting.

And after the 4GBP limit is reached on the clip it writes a new file which can be stitched together in post.

Now I agree that this doesn't benefit those who want to shoot PA. But for people like me who shoot NTSC this is huge.

Thanks for the info. I think the possibility of reversion can make it interesting in a PAL country.

A return to a previous state it is what he meant.
