Experience with 301e & 720 / 50p

Hi,

has anyone experience with the 720 50p settings of the Panasonic HPX 300 or 301e?
My first results with the default settings show a quite noisy picture. Any suggestions to tweak and improve?

What is your master pedestal set at?

When filming in 1080 50i, picture is smooth and perfect - but interlaced.
When filming in 1080 25pn or 720 50p it's pretty noisy.

Here is a short clip:

The first 35 seconds were filmed in 1080 25pn, the rest was filmed in 1080 50i.

Marcus:

Check your master pedestal. I have heard that for some bizarre reason, all of the Euro market HPX301, etc. were shipped with a +15 master pedestal which, yes, would make clips look really noisy.

Dan,

thanks for your reply. The master pedestal was set to 0 . So I will try something around -20. What do you think? I also changed the Detail Coring to +2 instead of +5 (default setting).

Hi:

-20dB will just crush the heck out of the blacks, I doubt if that will cure your noise issue. I usually only crush by -3dB to -5dB. Not sure why you are having noise issues, I did a shoot with the 300 and all of the images looked great and were fairly clean. Yes, detail coring should reduce noise a bit.

Dan,

did you watch my demo file?
What do you think about the noise in the first 35 seconds?
Am I to sensitive?

Hmm yea the progressive footage is rather noisey.. looks worse than my HVX.

Just to help you out, I have been complaining about his on the other panny forum... YES the camera is very noisy... Yes there are ways to reduce it... NO it will not be gone completely.

It seems that the noise moves differently than what we are used to, it moves a lot faster, thus making it more distracting. Even when theres little noise in the shot, your eyes jump to it because it moves fast.

Grazie for your reply. Could u tell me what you have changed to get rid of the strongest noise?
