Almost!

Get this? Or wait for 1080/24p?

Oh the dilemma!

Riley Harmon April 17th, 2005 01:02 PM

from what ive read this camera will do 1080/24p...so you wont have to wait...

Laurence Maher April 18th, 2005 04:10 AM

Yes, it does 1080 24p, supposedly the full 1920 X 1080 instead of 1440 X 1080. Sweet, huh? Accomplishes it with 2:3:3:2 pulldown like the dvx-100.

Man, this camera is . . . sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

Incredibly unlikely as the DVCproHD format does not support this resolution and at the 100Mbs datarate would be more or less impossible.

DVCproHD resolution is either 960*720p or 1280*1080p or 1280*1080i

Rumour is that the CCDs will be 1280*720 and will upscale to 1280*1080 and downscale to 960*720.

This fits with what I was told at the London Videoforum. I asked about the native resolution of the 1080i AJ-HDX400 camera and was told it was 1280*720, which I assume is 50p/60p at the CCD then converted to 1080i 50i/60i when recorded to tape.

[edit: OK so the following is wrong, see later posts]

Since the HVX100 does NOT record to tape, I assume that it saves discrete frames in 24p mode. Without tape, there is no need for the sort of methods the DVX or the Variam use to create 24p.

Damn, I can't find the reference, but I read somewhere that the 1080/24p will be recording as 60i, using 2:3:3:2 (I think) pulldown, just like the DVX.

In 720/24p, I think it records only the frames required, so yes you'll be using something like 40Mbps bandwidth.

EDIT: Found reference here

Thanks Aaron, and the direct link to the specific post is here

Whoops, well, interesting, since it comes from Jan Crittenden that's pretty definitive.

Peter Moore April 18th, 2005 07:18 AM

Sweet! I Thought I read it was only 720p. Awesome!!!

Wrap it up and put a bow on it. I don't even need to see it.
