Firewire cable that screws/locks down for Firestore use
I have an HVX200 and need a Firewire cable (4 to 6 pin) that screws or locks down on the ends. I need this as I use a cable with the Firestore, but sometimes it comes out, even if I use a right angle cable. I have seen one on the web somewhere, but can't remember where.
Does anyone know where I can get one of these? Jon |
I never heard of it ... Firewire cables don't have any threads on the socket, so, how does one screw lock the cable down?
|
Yes, I know Firewire and HVX have no place for screw holes, but I know a cable exists that essentially somehow locks the Firewire cable in place.

I have never seen such a cable before. If you managed to find it, post the picture / URL here. Thank you.

Hi Guys,
I asked this question some years ago when I had my Sony DSR570 attached to a Nnovia HDD at the rear 6pin FW port-- I investigated these, had thoughts of clamping the 90degree plug down to the cam body, Instead I bought a Pana SPX800 and some 32gig cards and retired the Sony and HDD...now they are for sale if anyones interested. some links for you to peruse--- NTC Distributing - Angled FireWire Cables USB | FireWire - Angled - Short - Custom - Cables - 877-522-3779 FireWire Right Angle Cables AngledCables.com Web Store - Buy Right Angled USB Short FireWire Cables, and Angled Mini B Extension Cables! these above would have to be better than the cable being dislodged during use... Cheers Tom K |
I took a look at all those links Tom posted. None of them has a screw down lock that Jon asked for. In fact - for Tom's links - I have already seen them. Nothing fancy. Thats' why I am puzzled that Jon is so sure that such a cable exists.

Tom,
The male end of the cable has NO way to lock/screw down to the female side on the camera. It will still come loose if you use it in the field. I still cannot see how a Firewire cable can be made to lock down to the camera. |

You expect too much grasshopper... you have to be creative and clamp the connector with a simple saddle, make it out of an aluminium strip was my idea. drastic times require drastic measures.. really now days I'd suggest dump the firestore and just buy some 64 gig E series P2 cards, you only have to buy them once lets face it, and alot less issues than the firestore gives... Hi Barry,
can you give a link to the locking cable for the hpx ?. If I were looking at running a FW cable for the HPX I'd use the 90degree down angle plug, pigtail the cable, and clamp the cable using a longer screw located just to the left of the "component out" text. You have to find your own solutions when using third party products, that's just the way it is.. cheers Tom K |
This PDF shows pictures of lots of types.
