using DRS in HPX370

The manual hasn't been a great help to me re DRS. I'm shooting 720P/30 run & gun in fairly uncontrolled, hurried situations. So I'd like to try it.

1. If you wanted to leave DRS all the time, would you just leave the Knee switch off and set the DRS level you want in the menu?

2. Are you using DRS often, and at what level? 1,2,3? My instincts tell me 3 would introduce too much noise, and that 1 is probably the safest bet.

Not too many people responding to this. I have not been able to experiment too much with my 250 and DRS but I would try and set up a situation with a good monitor to toggle back and forth between the settings and see if you can see how it responds. I have found most of these kinds of options are switchable for a reason. Sometimes they help sometimes not.

Some of the documentation I've found from Panny says that you'd want to avoid DRS in well-controlled lighting situations (like on a set) when you're trying to establish a "look". But they don't say if/where there's an on/off switch. Just levels 1-3.

Re: using DRS in HPX370

DRS is a tool in the toolbox for resolving wide dynamic range. Given something to do, like contolling that highlight/shadaow scanrio, it is a miracle worker. Given nothing to do, it only adds noise to the video. It is turned on and off in different places depending on the camera in question, and the levels are selected in another menu. Use it wisely, and you will love it. Use it where it is not needed and you may wish you hadn't.

Best,

Jan

Thank you, Jan. Where is it turned on/off in the HPX370?
