Hands on at IBC?

Has anyone managed to get their hands on the HVX-200 at IBC? Does Panasonic have working models there yet? Just some first impressions would be great.

The guy on this site shoots a bit on the camera.

Yup, that's from HD For Indies, an excellent site. Great stuff there!

That link doesn't work! Perhaps the 3 dots after curtis need to be filled in with actual text.

There are partially-working models being shown, yes. As to whether show attendees are getting "hands on" time with 'em, I don't think so; I think they said they were engineering samples and that there are only two of them. But yes they're there and they're showing a live image from them.

How was the footage?

I did a google site search for mikedcurtis and I think I found the original link:

it's homepage.mac.com / mikedcurtis / iMovieTheater50.html

I added spaces so that the forum didn't truncate it again... anyway, here's a link that should work:

Well at least we've learned that it doesn't fall apart when shaken vigorously. Other than that I didn't learn much from Mike's clip...

Kevin Dooley September 12th, 2005 07:45 PM

Which, of course, is the biggest question on all our minds...

Rob Lohman September 13th, 2005 02:25 AM

All models I saw at ibc where mockups except one. Which was (as they claimed)
the first working model. However, it wasn't fully working. Jan (Crittenden) told
me this model only did 1080i yet. No progressive (or 720) at the moment.

The expected release date of the camera in North America should be December
2005. With the European (PAL) version following somewhere in Q1 2006.

I believe the price without any P2 cards would be $5995 and with two (2)
8 GB (!!) P2 cards around $9995. I believe an 8 GB P2 card at maximum quality
(in DVCPRO HD) would give you a recording time of around 15 minutes. Hopefully
that is correct.

It was also mentioned that current 4 GB P2 cards are around $1700 and are
expected to drop below $1000 somewhere in October.

The image looked great on the monitor but a tad too sharp for my taste I
think. But it was a bit hard to judge. And of course this is a pre-production
model with unknown settings. Could've been the monitor as well. Or me :)

Mikko Wilson September 13th, 2005 02:52 PM

Man I *hate* too sharp pictures ;)

- there where actually a bunch of workign cameras.. 5 in fact: 2 at panasonic (and 2 moddles), 1 at apple, and they shot some stuff to P2 with it and had it in a G5, at Canopus, they had some, supposedly 24P stuff in.. and it relly didn't look interlaved to me. And the 5th one, to my understanding, was at a private demo room.. with Avid i think..

All the footage(does a P2 card even have feet?) and live pictures form teh HVXs looked really promising.. Heck, i'd be happy if that was the final footage myself!

We are in for a treat.

- Mikko.

It might not be at all, but it looks like a toy compared with the GY-HD100.

Robin Hemerik September 15th, 2005 06:21 AM

Too bad that there probably isn't any P2 card shipped with it. That makes it a lot more expensive than I thought.
