2/3" DVCProHD P2 Camera?

I showed the HVX200 DVD to my boss and, wouldn't you know it, he's asking me about the higher end P2 HD camera mentioned on the disk "coming in 2006."

Anyone have a "guesstimate" on how much this camera might be (minus the HD lens, of course?) I know the lowest end 2/3" P2 camera is listing for close to $13,000.

Yes indeed, it's a full-size shoulder-mount recording DVCPRO HD on P2 and I believe I saw the mock-up at NAB. Will try to get the model number and appx. price for you.

The price is 48000,00 euros!!! T_T
I hope that the model that you're talking about coming out for the price that you've mentioned!

Cheers!

My mistake: It doesn't have P2 CARD SLOT! But if you add this feature perhaps you will pay 60.000,00 euros?! T_T
Damned DoF! :)

If it is an HD P2 machine, wouldn't that make the price come down....as opposed to installing the elaborate tape head system required for DVCProHD?

That was the essential design decision that allowed for the HVX200.

I don't think it's the AJ-HDX400/400e. That records on a DVCPro tape, and it doesn't support all the formats and frame rates that the HVX200 will. With any luck the new camera will support D5-HD (in addition to DVCPro HD), which can do 720p, 1080i, and 1080p with 10-bit, 4:2:2 color using 5:1 compression. Bad news: 250-Mbps data rate. But P2 should be able to handle it.

I've actually shot with the HDX400 and it's definately not the P2 camera mentioned in the DVD.

Right. The HDX400 is a 1080i-only 2/3" tape-based camera.

The one hinted at in the DVD is widely speculated to be the P2-based replacement for the VariCam. I don't think anything official has ever been announced as far as details, but we're all pretty much expecting 720p and 1080i and 1080p, 2/3" CCDs, interchangeable lenses, multiple P2 slots, etc. Now, where things get fun is that at NAB, IINM, they had a badge on the side of it that said "HD-D5".

Just curious... What are the details of the HD-D5 format? How does it compare to DVCProHD?

I would imagine that a P2 only Varicam 2 would be cheaper than the current Varicam, precisely because it won't have the expensive tape transport. Can you imagine 2/3" 1080/24p 4:2:2 HD for less than $30K*!!!

*This $$$ figure is a complete and total guess, and is not based on any official information whatsoever.
