HVX-200 workflow, equipment needed

Okay, so the HVX-200 looks awesome, but what other equipment do you need to take advantage of it?

I currenlty have FCP 4.5, an iMac G4, an external 120gb harddrive...

what do you need to edit HVX-200 video at it's highest setting?

It sounds like you need a lot.

Matthew,

The HVX200 "is" awesome. And it looks like you have everything you need. Just make sure you upgrade to a copy of the latest version of Final Cut Pro HD (5.0.4) and you're all set bro!

So all I need to do is update to FCP 5 and of course get more HD space.

Peter Jefferson January 20th, 2006 03:21 AM

thats prety much it.. but i cant guarantee your level of performance...

Tony Torn January 20th, 2006 09:53 AM

curious...what are the specs on your G4?

1GHZ is the minumum for the HD function with FCP5...

your Hard drive 5400 or 7200rpm?

FW 400 or 800?

:-)

Peter Jefferson January 20th, 2006 07:56 PM

i dont use a mac, but i know for full res 1080i/p youll need at least a dual cpu with 2gb ram to get some decent activity.
7200rpm drives are a given though...

Matthew,

It's not specific to the HVX, but reading this book will help you get the most out of both your system and FCP:

"Optimizing your Final Cut Pro System", part of the Apple Pro Training series.

I'd highly recommend it; after reading that book and applying the knowledge to drive assignments and other tweaks my FCP system really "woke up" and is working more efficiently than ever.

This will be especially helpful if you're going to do any HD work.
