HVX recording to Powerbook

I love my HVX. My partner posted some footage I shot of coins dropping into a glass which was pretty amazing. I also will post some footage from a concert very soon which absolutely blew my mind how great the footage looks.

But I am trying to record directly to my Powerbook. So far I can record 2 seconds directly to the computer through the right capture presets in FCP.

But then it say's it has reached the end of the tape. Well there is no tape. Just the P2 card. So I'm wondering what I am doing wrong.

Also, even if I could record directly to the laptop beyond 2 seconds I would also be limited by the amount of space on my P2 card instead of the amount of space on my hard drive.

So is there any way to record directly to the capture window without using the P2 card? I would say no because the camera still needs something to enable you to hit the "record" button.

Anyone with a suitable workflow? I have read a few threads but I haven't seen any real answers. Maybe I'm blind. Can anyone help?

Thanks,

David

Try taking the p2 card out of the camera and just record the live feed from the firewire.

David,

Read my post on exactly this setup:

It's everything you need to know about how to use your PB for direct capture.

Ditto

Yeah, what Robert said ...

I've been trying this workflow and it works great. I'm looking to add a PC card to add a true Firewire 800 bus on my PowerBook and add a heftier hard drive. Roberts workflow is going to be mine ... at least until the Firestore/Cineporter are released. I think it will be a long while before I purchase another P2 card.
