Has any release date been given for the Cineporter? This seems like a good option for recording DVCPROHD if it ever comes out.

Could you buy 1 4GB P2 card, an AJ-PCS060G portable hard drive, and just keep transferring footage from the P2 card to the hard drive? Shooting 4min and then waiting to transfer sounds like a pain, but it usually takes a while to set up the next shot.

$1700 (B&H PCS060G) + $650 = $2350... ugh, still pretty expensive, but not too bad. What do you guys think? 60 GB drive... even if it was only 1min per GB, that'd be 60min.

The Powerbook approach doesn't sound too bad although it seems a little complicated for me.

And it seems like people have had problems with FireStore drives in the past though the one for the HVX isn't out yet.

What is 720p Native Capture mode? Is that like 24pA on the DVX or am I just crazy? Just wondering since on Panny's site, they seem to suggest shooting in that mode would give you more min per GB like 2 1/2 per GB if 720/24p.

Will Vegas support that?

24PN is 24 true frames per second...akin to 24PA, but not recorded with advance pulldown, since it is going to tape.

And the powerbook solution is a darn easy one. Plug in the card (make sure you have the P2 reader software installed...came with the camera) then drag the contents onto an external hard drive. Done.

wht shane means is that pn DOESNT go to tape, so there is no pulldown.. its ACTUAL 24fps

the laptop option seems to be the best way to go at this time cost wise.. the only issue is that youre restricted to one NLE....

heres hoping Pana get friendly with Windows NLE dev's to offer DVCPRoHD to windows users..

It already works in Avid and Canopus Edius Broadcast.

By all means, if you can make a laptop work with your workflow, the laptop is the best way to go.

But I'd strongly, strongly recommend having at least two cards. With two cards you can offload one while shooting on the other, and if you're doing narrative shooting you can almost always structure it so that you're never waiting for a card. With just one card, the whole production grinds to a halt whenever you need to offload it. Two 4gb cards are way better than having just one 8gb because it gives you more workflow options and you can keep shooting or be ready to shoot so much quicker

Although we haven't officially announced the release date, we are still shooting for mid-summer. It is subject to change, but we expect at least limited quantities available by then.

In the meantime, we do have 4GB cards in stock.

That it does, its a pity those NLEs do nothing to streamline my workflow though..
