Record SD to p2 Card From S Video

I was wondering if someone could direct me as to how to record SD through the S Video and composite audio inputs to the p2 card?

For the life of me, the manual simply does not address it.

Here's what I did.

Set the cam record mode to 480i/60 (also tried it at 480i/30 and 24).

Set it to DVCPro, DVCPro50 and DV.

Then attached s video cable and the composite video cable.

Went to DCR mode, then removed thumbnails.

Hit play on the SVHS deck and nothing.

Never got to push both record buttons.

Anybody identify my workflow issue?

Errr.... why on earth would you want to do that anyway?

The footage I have is on a VHS tape. For ease of use, I wanted to record to the cam and then import it and also archive it.

I don't have an alternative.

I've since discovered that you cannot record to p2 in this manner.

The cam needs to be in the tape mode, and the record is to tape.

Too bad. Wish the manual stated this

I still dont get it... why is P2 an issue? Just dump it to DV tape then into the computer...

It's really nothing to get.

I'm prefer to use the solid state technology and wondered if it were possible.

That's all. You prefer to use tape.

take care

I wasnt insulting you, just didnt get the difference. I mean, you arent going to keep it on P2...

I can see three potential advantages:

1) You can get files off the P2 card faster than you can it off tape.

2) You can record to P2 with a higher quality compression.

3) You put fewer hours on your tape heads.

Still, it's not your typical use case for an HVX-200. :)

A PC capture card or firewire capture box would be even faster, and wouldn't use any tape. The compression would be adequate for S-Video source material. But if you already own an HVX, but no capture card...
