Ingesting bare dvcpro50 hd mxf files into FCP?

Hi all,

I've offloaded footage stored on P2 cards onto my Macbook pro harddrive however in doing so I have downloaded contents of the video folder only (mxf video files) for most of the footage shot. Now FCP 5.1 will not recognize that footage as P2 originated (since I'm missing xml wrappers for the video files most likely).
Any tools out there for Mac that will regenerate the xml wrapper files? I've tried p2 viewer and HD log without much luck. Thanks for any leads on this...

Personally I feel the P2 directory structure with xml wrappers separated out into a different directory is not a very good idea... does anybody know how sony's XDCAM HD recording format deals with that?

TIA

You have to move the whole CONTENTS folder, or you are only moving PART of the MXF data. Move the whole CONTENTS folder and you'll be fine. Only moving the VIDEO folder is only moving a portion of the MXF data. There are many tutorials on this process all over the web. Check out dvxuser.com for some great info on this.

I always take the approach of learning how a tool works, rather than forcing it to bend to my will.

Thanks for the pointers guys, my problem however was that I only offloaded the Video subdirectory onto the harddrive (yes silly me) and overwritten the contents of the P2 card already, so the standard way of importing wouldn't work.

I ended up finding a solution by using Canopus Edius on a windows machine to import the mxf video files, export them as quicktime and then import them that way into FCP.

I've got a solution, but I'm not posting it here. Everything I post finds it's way into a Google search for my name. I don't like that. I've asked that something be done about this, but I still see my posts pop up in Google.

Email me or send me a message. I'll explain the process to you. It's fairly simple. All is not lost.
