Two newbie questions about HVX200 HD recording formats.

Hi all. . .

Here are two probably incredibly dumb questions about the HVX200, but I guess unless I ask, I'll never know.

1. How can something be both progressive AND interlaced at very same time? That is, the HVX200 records in 1080i/24P! This makes no sense to me. It seems that it should either be interlaced OR progressive, but not both. Or am I really missing something?

2. Finally, EXCEPT for storage issues, is there ANY visual difference between recording in 720/24pN and recording in 720/60 and then pulling it down to 24p? It would seem to me that the less processing one uses, the better things out to look, but, again, I may be missing something.

Thanks so much.

Stephen

Hi Stephen,

By recording 24P pulldown into a 60i structure it's both interlaced and progressive. By reversing the pulldown, you can get back to the original 24p frames, but you can also play the 60i into an interlaced monitor.

For your second question, one could record 24p into a 60i structure, but it uses a bit more data, which means fewer minutes per P2 card. Also, you can only over/under crank in 720PN, which is a really nice option in some cases.
