1080 versus 720 - Conversions

I am very new to this HD thing, so your patience is appreciated. I've been shooting for years and now the steep learning curve of HD.

Got the HVX camera last week, WOW! Now the question - a client wants access to 1080 and 720 from the same footage. Is there a way to shoot one in the HVX and get the rest without losing integrity of the picture?

Thanks!

Michael

You'd shoot 1080p and mace a 720p dub/downconversion...
... for whatever reason...

Michael - I can't answer your question, but if you just bought the HVX-200, make sure to get your free 8 GB P2 card from Sony. More info is in the forum if you need it.

You can get 1080p out of 720p rather easily if you have a Kona 3 card...in real time. You can also drop one format into another format timeline and render. Both are easy.

I worked on a show shot entirely 720p and we delivered a 1080p master. Upconverted with the Kona 3 as we output. Flawless.

Kona 3 only works with a Mac, and it costs around 3K. What is your platform ? I used Vegas Video on a PC and combine the two all the time. But what is your final output ?

Finally master needs to be 720p and 1080p. I'm editing on Avid. Does anyone know if there is upconversion tools in the Avid?

There is a very nice piece of software called Instant HD by Red Giant. It will make this converstion and look great, and it is around $200 and compatible with what you have.

Hope that helps,

Jan

Jan, i just looked up Instant HD and saw a $99 program that uprezes SD to HD. No one mentioned 720 to 1080. Was that just an oversight ?
