HVX200 1/48th Shutter?

How do you get this camera into 1/48th speed shutter....is it through the Syncro Scan function? I can change it to 1/48th in the menu but I don't know if it "took" or not. I wish it would display the shutter speed at all times in the viewfinder....it seems to default back to (1/50th?) when the camera is powered down and powered back up again.

Does anyone have any insight into this? Thanks.

P.S. I'm shooting 720 24p

I've gotten it there being in 24pn and playing with the shutter speed. Maybe you have to change it to Film Cam in the scene file? However, there is a display setting to make sure your shutter speed is always visible. I have mine turned on because I often forget about it when thinking about controlling my exposure.

It does display the shutter speed all the time in the viewfinder. You may have to go into the display setup screen and set the "other display" to either "partial" or "all" but it'll show the shutter.

When shooting 24p, turn the shutter "off"; that defaults it to 1/48.

180deg shutter is 1/48th if you are shooting 24fps

Barry: Does the HPX500 default to 1/48 as well? I can't find any documentation - I finally got the camera yesterday and have been shooting test footage and, to my eye, it looks slower, like 1/24...

I set the shutter switch to 1/50th and it looks better, but still blurrier than I'm used to with film...

It would seem odd for it to default to 1/24th...

It does not default to 1/48, no. You have to specifically set it.

You can set 1/48.0 by using the Syncro Scan function when in VIDEO CAM mode. If you're using FILM CAM mode, set it to 180.0 degrees and it'll be 1/48.0. That's the default in 24p modes.

On the DVX and HVX, turning the shutter "off" results in a default shutter speed being assigned; in 24P on the DVX that was 1/50, on the HVX it's 1/48. But on broadcast cameras turning the shutter "off" means that it's actually turning the shutter completely off, so yes you'd get 1/24 in that case.

So that's not what you want to do. Don't turn the shutter "off", turn it to Syncro Scan. The default Syncro Scan shutter speed is 1/48 when you're in a 24p shooting mode.
