Help me understand the D90

When shooting video with the D90, using a manual lens, in manual mode with the ISO set at a specific number (say 400 for this example) and shutter speed locked at 30 what exactly does the AE adjust to brighten or darken the image? Which of my settings are really locked, and which aren't? Which is adjusted to compensate for the AE? It can't be aperture since I'm using a manual lens, so is it shutter or ISO (gain)?

Ethan,

What did you think about the section in the instruction manual on video?

You mean the whopping half page crapfest? That one?

They spend the cash to send out a short novel length manual for the camera and include what, 120 words on the video function? Guess that should tell us something right there.

Wow! I must have turned two pages at once and skipped the video section!
