Need quick advice on lighting kit - britek and rifa?

Hi all,

I'm putting together a lighting kit that will be used for interviews and b-reel stuff. I've got a budget from work of about $1000 (give or take $100). The only lights I've worked with (I'm a novice) were a Lowel set with a chimera softbox and an umbrella.

Here's what I'm thinking - I could really use some advice/suggestions since I'm flying a little blind. I've searched/read this forum for days now and here's where I'm at:

1. Rifa softbox (55 or maybe a 66) - I really like how they open and shut, and seem to be well thought of. I'd also like an egg crate but they are really expensive for this light.

2. Two other cheap lights, maybe Britek, to work as fill and bg light. The problem I have is that the full 3 piece Lowell kits that come with a Rifa seem to be too expensive.

Can you all help with suggestions on putting something together? I'd like to be able to put gell's on the lights.

Thanks a bunch!
JL

ebay

if you search under "continuous lighting" in ebay you will find 4k britek light kits with softboxs for abit over $700...

Great little beginning setup as you can pull off your classic 3 point lighting on the subject with a softlight & have a light left over for the back ground highlighting.

I love Lowel but look for the Chimera 8000 kit at BH for like $520

It is a great kit. 24x32 chimera, grids, stand bag mogul socket 500 watt bulb but also uses 1000 and socket adapter for 250 watt bulb.

It rocks really really it does!
