Pictures of lighting sets, setups, tools, etc.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a thread, or resource that already exists, that shows actual production lighting setups (pictures, screen grabs) with explanations of the various tools used to accomplish the lighting?

I do have a number of lighting/cinematography books that have some pictures, and diagrams, but it would be really informative to see more photos with some footnotes from lighting scenarios of all budget sizes. I was just watching the featurette for the making of 'Sleepy Hollow' and wanted to post a grab from one of the sets where they have this huge soft box setup hanging from a crane with something like 24 lights inside of it.. (not sure if that's ok to post a few stills from copyrighted material, don't want to do anything not in keeping with the forum guidelines).

p.s. here's a thread with a similar idea that got me thinking about this, (though most of the submissions show the lighting results, not the actual sets and tools used). I'm hoping to find more set photos like the one that was posted by 'mmorlan62' in this thread:

Thx!

I've been thinking about for a number of years as well. To get some movie or
interactive system where you can actually what changes to lighting does
what and how it looks.

However, for some of the tools Scott (on the board here) made some movies
about what they are and how to use 'em:

Check out links through that thread to his movies. Once on his site you can
see the list of all of the ones he did.

I would definitely recommend the Walter Graff newsletter. It's a pay service, but as I recall the expense is minimal. I've found it very helpful. He sends out a new PDF by e-mail every couple of months. The PDFs contain detailed lighting diagrams and screen shots.

You don't have to own Arri lights to benefit from their marvelous handbook:

Yes, how could I have forgotten to mention those, as a beginner those were REALLY extremely helpful!

I thought I had already signed up, but I'll check with Walter as it was perhaps only a month ago and maybe the next issue hasn't come out yet, though I don't remember paying... Thanks for the reminder, I didn't realize he included diagrams.

Last one I got was June 5.

Well, I must not be signed up, I sent Walter an email, need to get on that mailing!

I forgot about this site, which has some great pics of locations and setups (most higher end budgets though): http://www.crewpix.com/indexgallery.htm

*actually, I didn't realize there were a LOT more picture categories than I'd seen previously, so, there are also a lot of pics from lower budget projects too: http://www.crewpix.com/gallery/Indie

I like this site also since its interactive. Turn the light on see the effect.

Thanks for the kind words. My newsletter has become quite popular. I write at least three articles a month on anything I can think of related to lighting and production and always supply photos and diagrams. I just started a summer special too.
