Hardware to hang 1 pipe
 

I'm hanging a 10 foot black iron pipe (gas pipe non galvanized) from the beams. Planning to use chains on each end and one in the middle.

When the lights are attached (3-4 Fresnels) it will be about 60-70 lbs of total weight. What hardware should be used to keep the pipe from twisting a bit when the lights are added?

What do you suggest to use to hang a 10 foot pipe?

Make sure you have redundant forms of attachment anytime you are working with rigging. You need a solid attachment (clamp) for primary, with a cable for back-up.

When in doubt, consult an expert qualified to advise you on this stuff.

Going to add a special clamp on each end of the pipe and connect to chain. Have a backup chain on it, also. Plus each light with c-clamp will have it's own chain to secure light in case the c-clamp fails.

Not sure the best way to connect to the chain to the beam with caribiners or what. Working on this part.

An engineeer suggested we put a 2/8 across the beams and connect to the 2x8. The 2x8 will be spreading the weight over several beams tursses instead of one.

can you not just use all threaded iron pipe? i.e. flanges screwed into the beams, 3-6" nipple to an elbow or T and thread the cross pipe into those?

The black iron pipe I located at Lowe's is gas pipe and it has threaded ends. You mention flanges into the beams...not sure. I know of the rounded flanges that for example would screw onto te ends of the pipe. Not sure whuch type of flanges it is for the beams. I'll have to find out and perhaps Lowe's can tell me.

I want to be able to secure it "twice" meaning a backup connection with a chain. It was suggested that I use "all thread" and I know about the all threaded rods but do not know the technical name for the clamp that needs to go on the pipe that then connects to the all threaded rods. How they connect to the pipe and how they connect to the beam...don't know which hardware it is.

I did find this picture which will show the all thread rod on the left of the pic connected to a clamp.It's this clamp that I do not know the name of....

I just belive I found the name of the item. It's called a clevis hanger which goes over the pipe, then all thread rod from the hanger to the beam and connected to the beam by a beam clamp.
