Help finding Wireless Dimmers

I recently switched from LED to tungsten Lowel Pro Lights for my reception lighting, and I would love to find some remote dimmers to control the intensity of the lights. Being able to turn them totally off would be an added bonus. Thanks guys!

Re: Help finding Wireless Dimmers

What kind of dimmer are you needing?

There are many different modules available based on the x10 communication system.

You would need a reciever module such as this one.
X10 TM751 Compact X10 Plug-In RF Receiver Base - Smarthome

Get a remote such as this one.
X10 KR22A 10-Button X10 Credit Card Remote - Smarthome

Then get a lamp dimmer module like this one.
Smarthome X10 Plug-In Lamp Dimmer Module

Chris, I took your initial response the wrong way. Oops! Thank you for your reply and links. I will study up on x10.

Re: Help finding Wireless Dimmers

Be careful, according to the specs, maximum wattage is only 150. How many watts are you drawing with your reception light(s)?

This one is good for 400w.

X10 PRO Lamp Module (without Automatic Gain Control) - PLM03 - SmartHomeUSA.com

You can also use the wall switch version and control it remotely or from the switch directly. Just mount the switch in a box and buy a short inexpensive extension cord to bring it together.

Re: Help finding Wireless Dimmers

Also look into Insteon, which is an updating of the X10 concept with faster and more reliable communication (dual band, sends command signals via RF and through power lines simultaneously). Their lamp dimmers max out at 300w though.

These are mega cheap compared to professional type DMX radio dimmers - if these work, they're ideal!

Re: Help finding Wireless Dimmers

As is the case with Chris and his X10, I have a houseful of Insteon. I had been thinking for a while about using them on set but never got around to it. They have a pocket remote (the size of a standard dimmer paddle and about 3/8" thick) that can control four or eight units, which would be extremely handy for this sort of thing. If you want to get really sexy you can use a computer interface for programming scenes and control it all from your iPad or iPhone. Also as Chris mentioned, you can house the dimmer switches and thus get up to 1000 watts for the heavy duty switch:

SwitchLinc - INSTEON Remote Control Dimmer (Dual-Band), High Wattage, White - Smarthome

Here's that remote:

RemoteLinc 2 - INSTEON Wireless Keypad, 4 Scene - Smarthome
